Privacy notice
Last updated: placeholder (Draft, October 2026)
This notice explains what personal information Skynet AI Solutions Limited, trading as LearnRove ("we", "us"), collects when you use LearnRove (the "service", at learnrove.co.uk), why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and your rights. It is written for parents and carers. There is a short version for children, Your information and LearnRove, which we also show inside the app. Our Terms of Service cover the rest of your agreement with us.
1. Who we are
Skynet AI Solutions Limited is the controller of the personal information described here: we decide how and why it is used.
- Company number: placeholder (00000000)
- Registered office: placeholder (1 Example Street, London, AB1 2CD)
- Email: privacy@learnrove.co.uk
- ICO registration number: placeholder (ZA000000), to add after registering with the ICO
If you have any questions about this notice or your child's information, email us at privacy@learnrove.co.uk.
2. How the service works
A parent or carer creates an account for one child. You sign up with your own email address and you manage the account, including any payment. Your child learns using the same account: they practise quizzes, work through lessons and can ask our AI tutor questions.
The service is for children aged 5 to 16. Only an adult with parental responsibility may create an account.
3. What we collect
About you (the parent or carer)
- Your name and email address.
- Your password. This is handled by our sign-in provider, and we never see it. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from Google.
- A 4-digit parent PIN, if you set one. We only store a scrambled (hashed) version, so we can't read it.
- Payment details. These go directly to Stripe, our payment provider. We don't see or store your card number. We keep a reference to your Stripe customer account and subscription, and the subscription's status and end date.
- Your email preferences, such as the weekly summary, and whether you have confirmed your email address.
- A promotional code, if you use one, and when the Premium it gives you ends.
- Your feedback, if you choose to give it: your answer to "How easy was it to get started?", and the short survey on the Account page (a rating and your comments). If you say we may show your words on our website, we keep that consent and may show your words with your first name and your child's school year (for example "Sarah, parent of a Year 4 pupil"). We check the words first and take out anything that could identify your family. You can withdraw consent at any time on the Account page, and we then remove your words from the website.
About your child
- Their first name, key stage, and whether they're preparing for the 11+.
- What they do in the service: quizzes taken, answers given, scores, lessons completed, progress, streaks and badges.
- Messages to the AI tutor and the tutor's replies. Before a message is stored or sent to the AI tutor, we automatically remove email addresses, phone numbers, postcodes and street addresses. We can't remove every possible detail, so please encourage your child not to share personal information such as their full name, school or address.
- Photos your child uploads to the tutor (for example, a picture of their homework). We remove location and camera details from photos before storing them.
- Safety records. Our safety system checks messages to keep children safe (section 5). If it stops a message, we keep a short record: the type of concern, when it happened, and a short extract of the message.
- Problems your child reports with a question, including any comment they write.
- Your child's feedback, if they give it: after their first finished lesson practice we may ask "Was this easy to follow?" (a choice of faces and, except at Key Stage 1, an optional short note). Their note goes through the same safety checks as messages to the tutor.
The round badge at the top of your child's pages shows the first letter of the first name you gave for them; it is made on their own screen from that name and only shown to your account. On the achievements leaderboard other pupils only ever see a made-up nickname, never your child's name, email or account.
Technical information
- When you or your child use the service, our servers record technical details such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. We use these to keep the service secure and working.
We don't use advertising, we don't sell personal information, and we don't build profiles of your child for marketing. Analytics cookies are used only on our public pages and only if you accept them (section 10).
Signing in with Google or Facebook
If you choose Continue with Google or Continue with Facebook, that service tells us your name, your email address and whether the address is verified, and sends us a sign-in token. We may also receive your profile picture address, which we don't store or show. We use this information only to create your LearnRove account and sign you in. We don't ask for access to your contacts, files, calendar or anything else in your Google or Facebook account, and we can't post anything for you.
We never sell this information, use it for advertising, or share it with anyone except the providers that run the service for us (section 6). Our use of information received from Google follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. You can remove LearnRove's access at any time in your Google or Facebook account settings; your LearnRove account stays until you delete it (Account → Delete account).
4. Why we use it, and our lawful basis
UK data protection law requires us to have a lawful basis for each use of personal information.
| What we do | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Create and run your account, provide lessons, quizzes, progress tracking, the AI tutor and the progress report | Contract: it is needed to provide the service you signed up for |
| Take payments and manage your subscription | Contract |
| Send service emails: account and billing messages, the weekly progress summary (you can turn this off) | Contract, and legitimate interests in keeping you informed about your child's learning |
| Send optional reminders and streak emails, if you turn them on | Consent, which you can withdraw at any time in Account settings |
| Check messages for safety, block unsuitable content, tell you about concerns, and refer serious concerns to our safeguarding lead (section 5) | Legitimate interests in keeping children safe. Where a message reveals sensitive information (for example about health or harm), we rely on the safeguarding of children condition in the Data Protection Act 2018 |
| Ask for and read feedback to improve the service | Legitimate interests in improving the service; answering is always optional |
| Show your words as a testimonial on our website | Consent, which you can withdraw at any time on the Account page |
| Check your email address before a payment, a promotional code or consent to show your words | Contract and legitimate interests in making sure we can reach you about billing and safety |
| Count visits to our public pages with Google Analytics (section 10) | Consent, which you can change at any time with Cookie settings |
| Keep the service secure, prevent misuse and fix problems | Legitimate interests |
| Keep financial records | Legal obligation (tax law) |
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have weighed them against your and your child's interests, and we take extra care because the service is used by children.
5. The AI tutor and keeping children safe
The AI tutor is powered by Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic (Anthropic, PBC, in the United States). We use it through Anthropic's own service for businesses (its API). Anthropic is our processor: it acts only on our instructions, under its Commercial Terms of Service and Data Processing Addendum. When your child asks the tutor something, we send Anthropic:
- their message, with personal details removed as described above;
- the subject, topic and key stage;
- the last few messages of the conversation, and any photo they uploaded.
We don't send your child's name or your details.
Anthropic uses this information only to produce the tutor's reply and check that messages and replies are safe. Placeholder, to confirm with Anthropic in writing: Anthropic does not use what we send it to train its AI models. Placeholder, to confirm with Anthropic in writing: how long Anthropic keeps the content of requests after responding (for example, content flagged by its safety systems, which it may keep for up to 2 years to investigate misuse). We will also ask Anthropic for zero data retention, so that it keeps nothing after replying.
AI can make mistakes. The tutor is designed to help children learn, not to replace a teacher, and its answers may sometimes be wrong.
Safety checks. Every message to the tutor is checked by an automatic safety system: word patterns, plus an AI check by Claude. It blocks unsuitable content and spots signs that a child may be at risk. If it finds a concern:
- your child gets a kind, fixed reply encouraging them to talk to a trusted adult;
- for concerns such as self-harm, danger or bullying, we tell you on the Account page and by email. The email never includes your child's words;
- if a message suggests a child may be being harmed by someone close to them, we don't tell the account holder. Instead our safeguarding lead reviews it and may contact the appropriate authorities, such as children's social care or the police, if a child may be at risk.
Automated decisions. The safety system decides automatically whether a message is answered or stopped. It doesn't make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects. If you think it got something wrong, contact us and a person will review it.
6. Who we share information with
We share personal information only with service providers who process it on our behalf, under contracts that protect it:
| Provider | What for | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft (Azure) | Hosting our servers and database, sign-in (Microsoft Entra), sending emails | UK (UK South); sign-in data in Europe |
| Anthropic, PBC | The AI tutor and the AI safety check | United States (placeholder: confirm with Anthropic in writing), see section 7 |
| Stripe | Payments | UK, EU and US |
| Only if you choose to sign in with Google | As described in Google's privacy policy | |
| Google (Google Analytics) | Counting visits to our public pages, only if you accept analytics cookies (section 10) | United States and elsewhere (proposed: confirm in Google's data processing terms) |
We may also share information:
- if the law requires it;
- to protect a child or anyone else from serious harm;
- with professional advisers;
- with a buyer, if our business is sold, under the same protections.
We never sell personal information.
7. International transfers
Some providers process information outside the UK. In particular, the AI tutor's requests are processed by Anthropic in the United States (placeholder: confirm with Anthropic in writing). When information leaves the UK, we make sure it is protected by UK-approved safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
- Anthropic: placeholder, to confirm with Anthropic in writing: the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, in Anthropic's Data Processing Addendum.
- Google Analytics: proposed: the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, confirmed with Google's certification, see section 10.
- Other providers: placeholder: confirm which mechanism applies with each provider.
8. How long we keep it
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Account details (names, email, key stage, settings) and learning activity (quizzes, answers, progress, tutor chats and photos) | While the account is open, except as below for tutor chats and photos. When you delete the account, we delete it straight away. Copies in our encrypted backups are overwritten within 14 days (proposed) |
| Messages to the AI tutor | 6 months after the message |
| Photos uploaded to the tutor | 30 days after upload. After that we remove the photo and keep the words of the message (for 6 months, as above) |
| Safety records about a safeguarding concern (for example self harm, abuse or bullying) | Kept for as long as needed to protect the child, and longer while a concern is open, then deleted; the period is proposed: to be confirmed with our safeguarding lead. If the account is deleted, we keep them without the account's name or email |
| Other safety records (a message we blocked, or a tutor reply we replaced) | 12 months after the event. If the account is deleted, we keep them without the account's name or email until then |
| Copies of emails we send | Content removed after 90 days; the record of sending deleted after 12 months. Until then the record (the address, subject, type and date) makes sure the same email is never sent twice |
| Server logs | 30 days |
| Google Analytics (public pages, with consent) | 2 months, Google's setting; its cookies last about 2 years in your browser |
| Payment and subscription records | 6 years after the payment, for tax law |
| Feedback and survey answers | While the account is open; deleted with the account. A testimonial shown on our website is removed when you withdraw consent or delete the account |
| Accounts nobody has used for 2 years | We email you first. If nobody signs in within 30 days of that email, we delete the account and everything in it, as above. Signing in keeps it. We never delete an account while it has a paid subscription or a promotional Premium period running |
9. Your rights
You have the right to:
- access the information we hold about you and your child;
- correct anything that is wrong;
- delete your account and its information (Account → Delete account, or email us);
- object to uses based on legitimate interests;
- restrict how we use it while a concern is checked;
- receive a copy of the information in a portable format;
- withdraw consent, where we rely on it, for example optional reminder emails.
As the parent or carer, you can exercise these rights for your child. Children who are old enough to understand their rights can also ask us directly.
To exercise a right, email privacy@learnrove.co.uk. We'll reply within one month.
10. Cookies and similar technologies
We store only what the service needs to work, plus analytics cookies on our public pages if you say yes.
Needed for the service (no consent needed):
- Sign-in: keeps you signed in. Strictly necessary.
- Your cookie choice: remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics cookies, so we don't ask again. Stored in your browser.
- Theme: remembers whether you chose light or dark mode. Stored in your browser.
Analytics, only if you accept. When you first open one of our public pages (the homepage, Pricing, sign-in and sign-up, these legal pages and "page not found") without being signed in, a banner asks whether we may use analytics cookies. If you accept, we use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see how people find and use those pages, for example how many visitors open Pricing or start signing up, so we can improve them.
- Only on the public pages, and only while nobody is signed in. Google Analytics never runs in the signed-in part of the service at all: not on your child's learning pages, the Account page or the progress report, and not on Pricing or these legal pages either while you or your child are signed in. On the public pages it also counts two steps: the Subscribe button on Pricing (the plan and its price), and an account being made on the sign-up page, counted at the moment it is made. Neither sends any name, email address or account number.
- What Google receives: the public page's address (without anything after the "?" in it except campaign tags), the page you came from (its website only), your browser and device type, a rough location worked out from your IP address, and the cookie's random identifier. We never send names, email addresses or account numbers.
- The cookies: _ga, and _ga_ followed by our analytics ID, set by Google Analytics on learnrove.co.uk. They last about 2 years (renewed when you come back), unless you reject them or clear your cookies.
- No advertising. We have turned off Google signals, advertising features and ad personalisation. Nothing is used to show you or your child adverts.
- Google processes this information for us, as our processor. Google may process it in the United States, protected by the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (proposed: confirm Google LLC's certification and the terms in Google's data processing terms).
- How long: Google Analytics keeps the information for 2 months, then deletes it.
Changing your mind. Choose Cookie settings at the bottom of the homepage, the Pricing page or these legal pages (when you're not signed in) to see the banner again. If you reject, we turn Google Analytics off and delete its cookies. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a reject and don't ask.
Some pages load content from other providers:
- Stripe, when you pay;
- a maths display library from a content network.
These providers may receive your IP address.
11. Keeping information secure
We use encryption in transit, access controls and secure hosting, and we limit who in our team can see personal information. Safety records about possible abuse can only be seen by our safeguarding lead and authorised staff.
12. Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we use personal information, please contact us first at privacy@learnrove.co.uk. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO): ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, or 0303 123 1113.
13. Changes to this notice
If we make important changes, we'll tell you by email or in the app before they take effect.
14. Content credits
Lessons and practice questions in the service contain content from Oak National Academy, licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. The learning objectives contain public sector information from the Department for Education, licensed under the same licence. We have adapted some of this content, for example by resizing pictures.
